Physical therapy researcher aims to detect cerebral palsy in infants earlier

Cerebral palsy is a lifelong disorder of movement caused by a disturbance to the developing fetal or infant brain. Now, a physical therapy researcher is leading a new study to find out if a particular type of movement — decreased selective leg control — can be used to diagnose cerebral palsy in very early infancy.

A bevy of new roles and titles were announced for Keck School faculty members recently, as Steven Giannotta was named Dr. Martin H. Weiss Chair in Neurological Surgery; Patrick C. Hsieh was named Edwin M. Todd/Trent H. Wells Jr. Professor of Neurological Surgery; Steven Siegel was named Franz Alexander Chair in Psychiatry; and Vivian Mo was named chief medical officer of USC Care.

The opioid epidemic has become a public health crisis with devastating consequences felt by individuals, families and communities. Author Sam Quinones gave context to what is now one of the worst drug epidemics in American history during a recent Visions and Voices event organized by the USC School of Pharmacy.
