Keck Medicine of USC enrolling volunteers for Phase 3 clinical trial for COVID-19 vaccine

To help bring an end to the COVID-19 pandemic, Keck Medicine is registering volunteers for a trial to test a promising, possible vaccine. A smaller, earlier trial induced a strong immune response to COVID-19 with only mild side effects.

Eric Strucko named chief financial officer for Keck Medicine of USC

Keck Medicine of USC has named Eric Strucko, PhD, MPA, MPH, MS, as the new chief financial officer. He will begin his new role on Oct. 19. Previously, Strucko served as the senior vice president and CFO for Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Medical Group.

Scientists launch data archive to bolster research on COVID-19

The difficulty of wide-scale data sharing has made it harder for scientists to thoroughly understand and respond to COVID-19, but researchers at the Keck School of Medicine of USC are working on a solution. The COVID-19 Data Archive will aggregate data from around the world, allowing researchers to access the findings of international colleagues and forge collaborations on a global scale.

How a rare prosthetic procedure restored a patient's vision

Due to multiple eye conditions, Roslymn Caldwell needed someone to drive her, read to her and guide her around her apartment. Caldwell underwent several cornea transplants, but her body rejected each. When she went to USC Roski Eye institute, ophthalmologist Annie Nguyen offered to treat her with a rare procedure available at only a handful of academic health systems worldwide.
