Keck Hospital named to 2022 Patient Safety Honor Roll

Keck Hospital of USC has received the 2022 Patient Safety Honor Roll Award from the California Health and Human Services Agency (CalHHS) and Cal Hospital Compare. The ranking process reviews safety domains such as hospital-acquired infections, adverse patient safety events, sepsis management, patient experience and Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

USC receives NIH grant to enhance diversity in addiction science

The USC Institute for Addiction Science, which brings together faculty from academic units across the university, will use a $1.3 million grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to create a program offering students from underrepresented minority groups interdisciplinary training, as well as eligibility for guaranteed interviews, select slots of PhD entry and application fee waivers at USC graduate schools.

There is a wide variation in price growth across California hospital systems, according to new research released by the USC Schaeffer Center. It suggests that for-profit hospital systems are mostly responsible for higher prices for patients and private health plans alike.

The secretome, a vital group of proteins that orchestrates processes of embryonic development, maintains organ function and coordinates organ activity, has traditionally been difficult for scientists to track. In a new study published in Open Biology, Andy McMahon, PhD, FRS, director of USC Stem Cell, and his collaborators have introduced a new method for labeling it and studying it in a living organism.
