COVID-19 Roundup: USC Chan looks post pandemic; hospital gets top safety rating

The USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy has launched a $2.5 million initiative to fund post-pandemic responses. For the fourth time in a row and even as the pandemic surged in Los Angeles County, Keck Hospital of USC has earned an 'A' grade from a national patient safety watchdog organization. And positive news from the USC Provost for those who have been vaccinated: testing requirements are changing May 3, making it easier for clinical staff to enter university buildings.

In Memoriam: Aerospace industry pioneer and USC Trustee Malcolm Currie

USC Trustee Malcolm Currie, engineering physicist and former chairman and CEO of Hughes Aircraft Company, died on April 18. Among his gifts to the university was a 2015 donation of $10 million toward the endowment of the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the construction of the USC Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience.

USC Athletics to transition student-athlete health care to Keck Medicine of USC

USC Athletics has announced the full integration of its athletic medicine services with Keck Medicine of USC, through USC Student Health. Moving forward, athletic medicine services will be overseen by USC Student Health and Seth Gamradt will transition into the role of director of athletic medicine.

Surgical procedure may help restore hand and arm function after stroke

A clinical trial has shown that patients who received a novel treatment that combines vagus nerve stimulation and rehabilitation showed improvement in upper body motor impairment after stroke.
