Jackiewicz to step down as Keck Medicine of USC CEO

At the end of June, Tom Jackiewicz, MPH, senior vice president and CEO of Keck Medicine of USC, will be stepping down to pursue an opportunity with the University of Chicago health system. Throughout his tenure, Keck Medicine has seen unprecedented growth in both revenue and reputation.

Howard Hu named chair of preventive medicine

Howard Hu, MD, MPH, ScD, has been selected as the new chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, effective July 1. Bringing with him the experience of a long and distinguished career, he will take over for Thomas Valente, PhD, who has served as interim chair of the department since 2018.

Better Together: a health care consortium with a crucial goal

Teamwork treats injured firefighters

On May 16, Justin Gillenwater, MD, MS, medical director for the Southern California Regional Burn Center at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center, received word that a Downtown building had caught fire, and the stored butane oil inside had exploded. Knowing that firefighters inside had to walk through a ball of fire to get out, he raced to LAC+USC, where he, his team and his emergency medicine colleagues would see to the wounded.
