COVID-19 Roundup: Pregnancy and the vaccine; enhancing resources for caregivers

As COVID-19 vaccine eligibility widens for everyone age 16 and older, Keck Medicine of USC obstetrician-gynecologist Marc Incerpi offered information on the safety of the vaccine for people who are pregnant. And for those who have given so much of themselves throughout the pandemic, resources are available through the Care for the Caregiver program.

In Memoriam: Philanthropist Eli Broad

Eli Broad, a philanthropist whose causes included the arts, science and education, died April 30. He was 87. His legacy includes the Eli and Edythe Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at USC.

One-third of all neighborhoods in the largest U.S. cities have been 'pharmacy deserts'

Black and Latino neighborhoods in the 30 most populous U.S. cities had fewer pharmacies than white or diverse neighborhoods in 2007-2015, USC research shows, suggesting that 'pharmacy deserts' — like so-called food deserts — may be an overlooked contributor to persistent racial and ethnic health disparities.

Chanita Hughes-Halbert to advance cancer equity at USC Norris

Chanita Hughes-Halbert will join USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center as associate director for cancer equity beginning July 1. She is a nationally recognized leader in cancer prevention and minority health research who has dedicated her career to reducing the disparities in cancer outcomes that affect patients from underrepresented communities.
