COVID-19 Roundup: Masking policy updates; USC community encourages vaccinations

On June 29, USC announced an update to on-campus masking policy for those who are vaccinated. To maintain safety for patients and employees, Keck Medicine continues to require masks for all while in a Keck Medicine facility. The USC community has stepped up in recent months to support vaccination efforts, including some famous faces. And USC researchers continue to study equity in access across global vaccination efforts.

Keck Medicine expands employee wellness program to care for caregivers beyond pandemic

In a continued commitment to meet the needs of its health care workers, Keck Medicine of USC announces the expansion of its employee wellness Care for the Caregiver program. This includes the establishment of the Keck Kindness program and the appointment of Steven Siegel as chief mental health and wellness officer.

Shapiro to be interim dean of Keck School starting July 1

Steven Shapiro will serve as interim dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC beginning July 1, USC President Carol L. Folt announced in a memo. Shapiro currently serves as USC's senior vice president for health affairs, and will assume this additional leadership role during the national search for a permanent dean.

Department of Preventive Medicine gets a new name

The Department of Preventive Medicine will become the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC on July 1. The name change signals a new era for the department, which has undergone tremendous growth and expansion in its areas of research since its founding in 1977.
